Building Construction.3

Actual Elapsed Time: 14 hours (50,400 seconds)

Part of another floor of the new San Francisco library is built. Speeding up the action shows the step-by-step process of attaching one steel girder after the next. You can also see the ebb and flow of construction work - the busy morning construction, lunch hour, and when the crew breaks for the day in the early afternoon.

How This Clip Was Made:

This time-lapse video was created using a special time-lapse video recorder that takes one frame of video every eight seconds. We transferred only 1 of every 20 frames from the time-lapse tape to a computer. When the transferred frames are displayed, the action is show at about 5,000 times normal speed. Production: David Schwabbe, San Francisco Public Library. Post-Production: Jeff Fohl.
