Building Construction.4 Actual Elapsed Time: 20 days (1,730,000 seconds) Building crews add another floor to the new San Francisco library. By speeding up the action more than 100,000 times, we can see how the structure is assembled. Relying on the central crane, work crews start at one corner and attach new girders to the existing structure. How This Clip Was Made: This time-lapse video was created using a special time-lapse video recorder that takes one frame of video every eight seconds. We then transferred only 1 of every 400 frames from the time-lapse tape to a computer. When the transferred frames are displayed, the action is shown at about 100,000 times normal speed. Production: David Scwabbe, San Francisco Public Library. Post-Production: Jeff Fohl.
