privacy policy ...

Red Hill Studios, creator of the Playing With Time web site and the Time Explorers program, is fully committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. We believe the Internet can be a great forum for learning. But we are also aware of the risks that may be associated with it. Red Hill Studios is especially sensitive to the issues surrounding the collection of personal information from children.

Red Hill Studios collects the minimum amount of information necessary for the Time Explorers mailing list and the Time Explorers program. Any person under the age of 18 must provide parental information. The information collection forms cannot be submitted without it.

Before information collected from a child is used, an email or letter is sent to the parent or guardian provided in the form, to obtain his or her written consent. Only after written consent is received, will participation in the mailing list and/or the program commence. If consent is not received within 30 days, all personal information collected from a child will be deleted.

If the child's proposal for the Time Explorers program is selected, the parent or legal guardian will receive another email or letter informing him or her of this. The parent will also be advised that more substantial contact will be required as a result. This could include regular mail and phone contact, in addition to email.

The information collected is only used for the Time Explorers program and mailing list. It is collected solely through the information request forms located in the "collaborate with us" section of the web site.

Although this information is not sold or shared with any third parties, there may be an option for a child to participate in a collaborators' bulletin board. Depending on a child's actions, this could entail some degree of public disclosure of his or her personal information. All users of the bulletin board will be instructed to take a screen name that is different from their own and never to share personal information online. Parents and/or legal guardians will have the option to restrict their children from participation in the bulletin board in the initial email sent to them at the time of consent, as well as the follow up email sent if the child's proposal has been selected.

All storing and tracking of information is handled by Red Hill Studios. Red Hill Studios does not sell, share or make this information available to anyone else, with the exception of public disclosure that can happen in a bulletin board setting, as noted above.

The Playing With Time web site does provide links to other web sites that have their own information collection practices and safety policies.

Red Hill Studios is taking precautions to ensure the safety and privacy of all children who come into contact with the Playing With Time web site and the Time Explorers program. Parents or guardians who do not feel comfortable with the nature of this project or the security measures we have in place, always have the option to review the child's personal information, ask to have it deleted, and refuse to allow any further collection or use of the child's information. To make this request, please send an email to help@playingwithtime.org or a letter to Red Hill Studios, 180 Harbor Drive, Suite 230, Sausalito, CA 94965. We also take steps to verify the identity of anyone requesting information about a child and ensure that the person is in fact the child's parent or guardian.
